Spring Into Health: Your April Guide to Wellbeing in Huddersfield

Posted on April 2nd, 2026

Lindley Village Surgery spring health advice for Huddersfield patients April 2026

As the days get longer and we finally start to shake off the winter chill, April is a wonderful time to focus on our health. Here at Lindley Village Surgery, we know that spring in Huddersfield brings beautiful blooms—but also some unique health challenges.

This month, we are supporting Stress Awareness Month and World Health Day (April 7th) . Whether you are managing a long-term condition, preparing for the pollen season, or simply want to make the most of the fresh air, here is your essential guide to staying well this April.

  1. Spring Clean Your Health: Don’t Miss Your Reviews

Spring is the perfect time to “MOT” your health. If you have a long-term condition, we may be inviting you in for an annual review soon.

  • Respiratory Health (Asthma & COPD): As the weather warms up, fluctuating temperatures and increased pollen can trigger flare-ups. If you are due for your asthma or COPD review, please book it now to ensure your inhaler technique is correct and your symptoms are well-managed .

  • Cardiovascular Health: If you have Hypertension, CHD, or Atrial Fibrillation, keeping on top of your spring review helps reduce your risk of stroke or heart attack.

  1. Hay Fever Alert: Managing Spring Allergies

For many in Huddersfield, April means the start of the dreaded hay fever season.

  • The Trigger: Tree pollen (typically released from late March to mid-May) is the main culprit right now.

  • The Advice: Almost half of people with asthma say pollen makes their symptoms worse . Don’t suffer in silence.
    • Top Tip: Check the daily pollen count (local forecasts are available for West Yorkshire).
    • Treatment: If antihistamines or steroid nasal sprays aren’t working for you, speak to our pharmacist or book an appointment. We can review your treatment plan .

  1. Prioritising Mental Health (Stress Awareness Month)
April is Stress Awareness Month . Whether it’s financial worries, work pressures, or family life, stress can impact our physical health too.

    • Get Outside: We are lucky to have beautiful spots like Beaumont Park and the Colne Valley nearby. Even a 20-minute walk in green space can lower cortisol levels.

    • NHS Support: If you are struggling to cope, you don’t have to go it alone. NHS talking therapies services are available for self-referral. Speak to a receptionist for details on how to access support.

  2. Easter & Holiday Weekend Preparedness

With the Easter holidays upon us, pharmacy and GP opening hours may change.

  • Order Your Repeat Prescriptions NOW: If you rely on regular medication (e.g., for diabetes, thyroid, or blood pressure), check your supply today. Do not wait until the Friday of a bank holiday weekend to order .

  • Know Where to Go: For minor illnesses (coughs, colds, rashes), visit your local pharmacy first. They are clinically trained and can help without an appointment.
